It seems that early game 1-4 losing your safety increases loot and on mission 5 killing the boss gives 8 loot and if you can't kill it you only get 1. You also need to be lucky with your (un)desired slot discoveries and the start rng. All you need to do is fill the screen with projectiles that freeze and pushback and deal tons of damage so it's all about having like 6~ projectiles, as much +dmg as you can get, 1 good freeze and knockback, 1 good main projectile and then bounce/pierce depending on your main projectile.
